Get Your Absentee Ballot!

UPDATE! Absentee ballots have been sent out for all Connecticut towns. Ballots could be returned as of October 2. If you have not yet gotten your absentee ballot, contact your town clerk. You can return your ballot by mail or by dropping it in the ballot box, usually placed outside of your city or town hall (where the town clerk is located).


Those of us with PI and our families are limiting our exposure to groups of people whenever we can. That means absentee ballots for the November election are made for us. [Read more…]

COVID-19 Science Twitter List

I became increasingly frustrated by the garbage I found on social media relating to the new coronavirus, COVID-19. So, I created my own Twitter list that includes only scientists and science journalists who know what they are talking about.

I cannot guarantee there will be no objectionable language, political statements or cat pictures. If you think about the pressure these people are working under, I hope you’ll agree it is understandable.

The Truth About Hand Sanitizers

Hand sanitizers have been in the news recently. You have probably heard about a recent issue the FDA has had with claims made by Gojo, the company that makes Purell hand sanitizer. 

It seems the company got a bit over their skis and claimed the product could kill or decrease the number of pathogens on the skin without adequate research to support the claims. The FDA issued a letter instructing the company to remove the claims from the Web site.
